Die Expertenplattform „Demographischer Wandel in Sachsen-Anhalt“ führt in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung Halle (IWH) den Transferworkshop "Abgehängte Regionen – Probleme und Gegenstrategien" durch. Hintergrund der Veranstaltung ist, dass in Deutschland seit einiger Zeit vermehrt über abgehängte Regionen gesprochen wird. Zumeist manifestiert sich das Abgehängt-Sein in der demografischen Entwicklung, der Abwanderung der Jüngeren und der Alterung der Bevölkerung. Die Daseinsvorsorge für die Dagebliebenen wird schwieriger. Betroffen sind davon vor allem ländliche Regionen.
Die Welt ist in Bewegung. Nationalistische Strömungen und Abschottungstendenzen nehmen weltweit zu, auch in der Europäischen Union greifen starke Fliehkräfte um sich.
This paper looks at the integration of regions and nations through the prism of the merger of populations (societies). The paper employs a particular index of social stress. Stylized examples of the merging of two populations suggest that with integration, the social stress index will increase.

Februar 2017 von 10:00 bis 16:00 Uhr eine Tagung durchgeführt. Den Eröffnungsvortrag hielt Dr. Jürgen Ude, Staatssekretär im Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitalisierung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt.
