Zur Person

Steven Ongena is a Professor of Banking in the Department of Banking and Finance at the University of Zurich, a senior chair at the Swiss Finance Institute, a research professor at KU Leuven, and a research fellow in financial economics of CEPR. Before moving to Zurich, he taught at CentER-Tilburg University and BI Norwegian Business School and studied at the Universities of Oregon (PhD), Alberta (MA) and KU Leuven (MBA, Hir).

The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association and the FIRE research centre at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management were organising a joint Workshop on "Challenges to Financial Stability" on September 8th and 9th, 2016, held in Halle (Saale).

The workshop provided a platform to discuss changes in the regulatory framework of the financial sector, their impact on financial stability, and consequences for the real sector.

We invited theoretical and empirical contributions on topics including:

systemic risk measurement
regulation, firms and financial intermediation
law, politics and finance
incentives and leverage of firms and households
unconventional monetary policy and bank behaviour
consequences of crisis in transition economies
coordination of supervision and regulation
