Virtual: 10th Workshop Banks and Financial Markets

Workshop topics include competition and risk-taking of individual banks, the (e)valuation of climate risks by financial institutions and in financial markets, the stability of the financial sector and its regulation and the role of real estate markets for financial system resilience. The workshop aims at linking young economists interested in related topics and provides a platform to exchange ideas and discuss recent contributions.

This paper shows that by reducing the cyclicality of deposit costs and internal funds (profits), deposit market power reduces banks’ funding risk and provides the flexibility to originate long-term loans.

We study climate and macroprudential policies in an economy with financial frictions. Using a dynamic stochastic general equilibrium model featuring both a pollution market failure and a market failure in the financial sector, we explore transition risk – whether ambitious climate policy can lead to macroeconomic instability.
